Indian Design Education review

Following my Fulbright to India in 2001, teaching at four different Indian design schools: National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, IIT Guwahati (Assam), Srishti Institute of Art and Technology (Bangalore), I wrote a comparative article for the Chicago AIGA journal. Designer stats

“Who are we? Where are we going?” AIGA in Chicago, Spring 1993. Short piece based on research conducted using AIGA membership roster. Questionnaire was sent out to all members; response rate was 48% (that is excellent, for you wonks). I had some hypotheses about differences between female and male designers; some held. My one and only foray into social science; it didn’t take. What do you think is true today? Read the text here.

“Cipe Pineles: a life of design”

This 1999 book provides the only full story of Pineles’ life and work, from immigration from Austria as a teenager, through education at Pratt, working for Dr. Agha, first independent woman art director for several magazines, teaching at Parsons, and other projects. It traces, too, her marriages to two prominent designers and how she balanced work and home.  Signed (if you want) copies are available directly from me for $15 postpaid.
